Do you ever feel like you are living a powerless life? Like maybe your faith is just enough to get you through, but that there is no sense of victory with it? Take a look at Ephesians 3:14-21. In it, Paul describes a prayer that he has for the church in Ephesus. It is a prayer about growing spiritually, having inner strength, and about living a life of power and fullness. The prayer reveals a partnership that we have with God in accomplishing these things. It is not a work that we do solely by our own will power, nor is it something automatic that God simply hands to us when we believe in Jesus. Instead it is God working in us and with us as we submit to Him. At the heart of this prayer is the following:
“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God” Eph 3:18-20 (NLT).
Paul tells us we need to strive for 2 things – to understand and to experience God’s love. So read about it, sing about it, meditate on it, pray for it, serve others with it. Sow it into people’s lives and reap it from others. We must seek to understand and to experience God’s love. The promise is that when we engage in these types of activities, the result is a life that can be filled with the power that comes from God.
